Position Summary:
Develops rubber compounds for a variety of markets and applications using analytical techniques.
Conducts test on chemicals, fuels, elastomers, molded products and processes by performing the following duties.

Scope/Supervision and Interaction:

Essential Functions:
- Develops new elastomeric recipes in all polymer families for automotive, diesel, consumer and Aerospace applications.

- Plans and conducts complex engineering experiments to test, prove, modify theoretical propositions on basis or research findings and experiences of others researching in related technological areas.

- Evaluates findings to develop new concepts, products, equipment, or processes, or to develop applications of findings to new uses.

- Prepares technical reports for use by engineering or management personnel for long-and short-range planning, more for use by sales engineering personnel in sales or technical services activities.

- Directs and coordinates engineering activities concerned with development, procurement, installations, and calibration of instruments, equipment, and control devices require to test, telemeter,, record, and reduce test data.

- Perform analytical testing of rubber products (FT-IR, TGA, DSC).

- Determines conditions under which tests are to be conducted and sequences and phases of test operations.

- Directs and exercises control over operational, functional, and performance phases of tests.

- Confers with scientific, engineering, and technical personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data interpretation.

- Analyzes and interprets test data and prepares technical reports for use by chemical engineering and management personnel.

- Develops or uses computer software and hardware to conduct tests on chemicals, fuels, and processes.

- Develops new test methods for rubber testing as required.

- Performs FMEA Analysis on field returns.

- Interface with customers on R&D Projects.

- This job has minimal supervisory responsibilities as needed for lab technician direction and prioritization.

Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 

- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

- Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. 

- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. 

- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
