Engineer, Process at Sigma-Aldrich, Lenexa, KS
PURPOSE OF THE POSITIONLead dry powder media (DPM) manufacturing process development and scale-up activities including formulation, blending, pin milling, and packaging of dry powder media, buffers, and reagents. Generate technical information to support manufacturing improvements, validation studies, and requests from internal and external customers as it applies to technology transfer and scale up activities for dry powder media as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
' Provide technical transfer support including formulation, blending, powder characterization, pin milling, and packaging of dry powder media, buffers, and reagents.
' Develop a 'library' of dry powder raw materials and finished products to include powder handling characteristics, physical properties, product stability, and cleaning difficulty.
' Development of process studies including qualification of equipment for validation of formulation, milling, and blend homogeneity of dry powder products.
' Conduct experiments to generate data that supports investigations for both internal and external customers.
' Technology Transfer support for operational Site to Site, non cGMP small scale to cGMP and New Product Transfers.
' Maintenance of Technology Transfer Product database(s) and workflow systems to better control manufacturing parameters for SAFC global powder media operations.
' Development support for new products.
' Support of the packaging operations at Lenexa, KS as required.
' Write protocols and report results of studies conducted, prepare literature for Marketing publication when applicable.
' Work with Production, Maintenance and QA to ensure existing manufacturing processes remain in control.
' Initiate, propose and work with optimization projects to reduce quality incidents, manufacturing costs, cycle times and/or increase product yield. Develop project justification and capital project proposal when required. Manage capital projects consistent with SAFC Biosciences engineering guidelines and policies.
' Participate in PAT efforts at Lenexa, Irvine, and Broadway sites.
' Takes part in and contributes to a safe working environment by following corporate and departmental safety regulations.
' Performs other relevant duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Education:
' Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, or related Engineering Discipline with 3-5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
' 3 to 5 years project management experience in managing budgets, scope and project schedules.
' Proven ability to lead and participate as part of a team.
' Biochemistry/chemistry knowledge/ project management
Preferred
' Experience:
' Experience with dry powder formulation, milling, blending, and packaging operations
' Hands-on engineering experience with process equipment.
' Experience with technical transfer and scale-up of powder and liquid products
' cGMP manufacturing experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
' Skills and Knowledge:
